Electrical Contractors: Important Information About Your 2006 License Renewal
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation adopted a new rule pertaining to Florida’s electrical contractors. The new rule specifies continuing education requirements by subject area. As always, it is important to remember that you will not be able to renew your license unless you have completed all of your 14 hours of continuing education requirements. The requirements are as follows:
- 7 hours of technical education
- 1 hour of workers’ compensation education
- 1 hour of work place safety education
- 1 hour of business practices
- 1 hour of advanced building code module
- 2 hours of false alarm prevention (only for Alarm Contractors and Electrical Contractors who perform alarm work)
- 1-3 remaining hours can be general
Special Notes:
- You can only receive credit for taking a course one time during any renewal cycle – duplicate courses will not be credited toward your requirements.
- You can only receive credit for courses that are approved by the Electrical Contractors’ Licensing Board which are being offered by approved Continuing Education Providers. Be sure the providers and the courses you use are current and have not expired. Credit cannot be given for expired courses or courses offered by expired providers.
- If you grandfathered your registered license during this renewal cycle you are still required to complete all 14 hours of continuing education.
- If you received your first license from the Electrical Contractors’ Licensing Board since September 1, 2005 you are not required to complete any continuing education during this cycle. You must take the 4-hour building Code Core Course within 2 years of being issued your license.
- If you received your first license from the Electrical Contractor’s Licensing Board between September 1, 2004 and August 31, 2005 you are required to complete 7 hours of continuing education for this renewal cycle.
